Nottingham Forest vs. Liverpool: The ‘Reds’ set up to lose

From chasing for the premier league title, Liverpool find themselves chasing something else as they travel to Nottingham Forest.

This is one fixture the Reds will at this moment, dread as their upcoming clash versus Manchester City draws ever nearer. There lies a worrying history between Nottingham Forest and Liverpool, specifically when it has to do with the ‘City Ground’. And even without the crisis of an injury, meetings between these two isn’t quite the straightforward fun fair many would expect.

That aside, there is the fact that both teams face contrasting fortunes in the league that adds more meaning to this clash.

Both Liverpool and Nottingham Forest are desperate for the points considering the Reds will need all 3-points to continue its hold on the top spot until the face off versus Manchester City. And for Forest, sitting just 4-points above the relegation zone to a Luton Town side who has a game in hand, doesn’t spell a lot of room for any slip up.

Forest desperately need redemption as soon as possible to avoid relegation, and with Liverpool sitting with at least 9 key players on the sidelines, a better time could not have presented itself for Nottingham to once again beat the Reds at the infamous City Ground.

They shook fans last season after Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal was enough to seal the win against the Reds, and though Liverpool were the better side on the day, with many of its players present in that matchday squad, Nottingham Forest ran off 1-0 winners a week after Liverpool famously decimated Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield.

With fate set to play its hand again, the Reds face a losing battle on their hands just before meeting Manchester City.

Who wins remains everyone’s doubt, but one thing is certain, Liverpool should not be considered as favorites before the kickoff.
