Michael Owen tips Arsenal to win the Champions League

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has tipped Arsenal as the most significant threat in the current Champions League season to Manchester City for Europe’s most coveted title.

Michael Owen, who also had stints with Real Madrid and Liverpool during his career, made the statement following Arsenal’s impressive 2-1 victory against Sevilla in Tuesday’s away tie.

It is worth noting that Manchester City is the reigning champion of the competition, having secured the title by defeating Inter Milan 1-0 in the final last season.

Owen’s assessment of Arsenal’s potential in the Champions League is underpinned by the belief that the Gunners rank among the top three teams in the competition in terms of their playing ability this season.

He emphasized the quality and consistency that Arsenal demonstrates on a week-to-week basis.

During a recent interview with TNT Sports, Owen shared his thoughts, saying,

“I think this Arsenal team on ability, on what they do week-to-week, is one of, if not Manchester City’s biggest challenge in this competition. I think they are that good.”

However, Owen also highlighted a potential hurdle that Arsenal might face in the Champions League this season.

He points out that, while Arsenal possesses exceptional talent and ability, the challenges posed by experienced teams and the complexities of the competition can be a significant obstacle for teams entering the tournament for the first time.

Owen’s analysis underscores the competitive nature of the Champions League, where even teams with immense ability may require time to acclimate to the unique demands and pressures of the competition.

Despite Arsenal’s undeniable quality, Owen suggested that their relative inexperience in the Champions League might be a key factor to consider.

“On ability I think they’re the second or third best team in it. But can I see them go all the way based on this inexperience… it’s a massive ask, but they are good enough, ability-wise.”
