Manchester United turn down loan move for Jadon Sancho

A return to Borussia Dortmund could have been on the cards for Manchester United winger, Jadon Sancho had the Old Trafford side not swoop in to reject the move.

Manchester United has reportedly turned down a loan offer from Borussia Dortmund for winger Jadon Sancho. The 23-year-old joined United in a high-profile transfer from Dortmund in 2021, with the deal amounting to a reported £73 million.

However, Sancho struggled to justify his hefty price tag in his first season as a Red Devil. The winger continued to face challenges during the 2022/2023 campaign, finding himself behind the likes of Marcus Rashford and Antony in manager Erik ten Hag’s pecking order.

With the summer transfer window now open, speculation has mounted regarding Sancho’s future at Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United has rejected Dortmund’s loan offer for the Englishman. However, reports suggest that United would be open to permanent offers for Sancho.

It is believed that a bid in the region of £45 million could entice Manchester United to part ways with the talented winger.

Before his move to Manchester, Sancho was widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young talents. However, a series of injuries hindered his first season back in English football, and he has struggled to regain his best form since then.

Thus far, Sancho has made 55 appearances in the Premier League for Manchester United, scoring just nine goals. In contrast, during his time at Dortmund, he featured in 104 Bundesliga matches, finding the net 38 times.

At the start of the 2022/2023 season, Sancho spoke about the changes under manager Erik ten Hag, expressing that there was clearer information, a defined plan, and a focus on specific areas of the pitch. He also highlighted the team’s improved cohesion in training and their ability to execute the manager’s desired style of play.

However, despite his positive remarks, Sancho’s playing time remained limited, raising speculation about his future at the club.

As the transfer window progresses, the spotlight will remain on Jadon Sancho’s situation at Manchester United, with potential suitors monitoring the developments closely.

The winger’s undoubted talent and previous success at Dortmund make him an attractive prospect for clubs seeking to bolster their attacking options.
