Manchester United fans demand the signing of Andre Onana

In the midst of the summer transfer window, Manchester United fans have voiced their demands for the club to acquire goalkeeper Andre Onana, inspired by a compilation showcasing his exceptional distribution skills as a sweeper keeper.

As uncertainty looms over the future of David De Gea, Manchester United and manager Erik Ten Hag have been actively seeking a new goalkeeper. With Jack Butland departing and Dean Henderson also likely to move on, the Red Devils are keen on securing a reliable shot-stopper.

Amidst contract negotiations with De Gea, whose future at the club remains uncertain, Manchester United has reportedly requested him to consider a substantial pay cut. Consequently, a majority of the club’s fans seem to favor a change in the goalkeeping position, with Andre Onana emerging as a popular choice.

“This would help our midfield,” commented one enthusiastic United supporter on Twitter, referring to a compilation video showcasing Onana’s impressive distribution skills, shared by @EthanTaIks.

Another fan added, “Basically like having an Iniesta in goal.”

At the age of 27, Onana has long been recognized for his adeptness with the ball at his feet, but his abilities have significantly evolved since his move to Inter Milan from Ajax at the start of last season. Not only is he a reliable shot stopper, but he also played a crucial role in helping his former side reach the Champions League final, despite their eventual 1-0 loss to treble winners Manchester City in Istanbul.

Onana shares a familiar connection with manager Erik Ten Hag, having worked together during their time at Ajax. This existing rapport suggests that the goalkeeper would quickly adapt to Ten Hag’s tactical philosophy should he make the move to Manchester United.

However, competition for Onana’s signature is expected to be fierce, with Chelsea also expressing interest in the talented shot-stopper.

The London club, under the guidance of new manager Mauricio Pochettino, is actively seeking a settled number one goalkeeper due to uncertainties surrounding the futures of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy.

De Gea has faced significant criticism for his distribution in recent months, struggling to meet the demands of a modern goalkeeper. His occasional lapses have not gone unnoticed, and it is likely that the 32-year-old Spaniard will play second fiddle to any incoming goalkeeper in the upcoming season.

During his debut season in Italy, Onana made 41 appearances for Inter Milan, showcasing his abilities by keeping an impressive 19 clean sheets.

With Manchester United fans eagerly awaiting developments in the transfer market, the clamor for the signing of Andre Onana grows louder. As the club seeks to reinforce their squad, it remains to be seen if they can secure the services of the highly sought-after goalkeeper before the start of the new season.
