Luis Suarez departs Atletico Madrid

After so many rumors, talks about Luis Suarez’s Atletico Madrid career, it has been confirmed that the Uruguayan will be departing the La Liga club this season after an emotional farewell to club fans.

News had gotten the light of day as to his future with the club after it came to public eye that he had rejected a final offer to renew his contract. The move seemingly comes as a result of his lack of playing time this season after having won the club the La liga title last season.

His last game for the club came against Sevilla at the Wanda Metropolitano, the last time he will play at the Wanda Metropolitano as an Atleti player.

The La liga club confirmed its striker’s farewell by posting a message on Twitter in which they announced that the game against Lopetegui’s side at home would be a tribute to him and Hector Herrera.

“At the end of the match, the Wanda Metropolitano will pay tribute to Luis Suarez and Hector Herrera, who are bidding farewell to the Atletico fans. After the end of the match, don’t get up from your seats because we will experience a very special moment,” the tweet read.

Suarez leaves after a controversial and emotional exit from Barcelona 2 seasons prior.

Suarez’s farewell had been ‘leaked’ by Rodrigo de Paul before its announcement though, posting an image with the striker sharing a mate over a text that read: “The last one at home, let’s send you off in style like you deserve! Come on, goal scorer”.

It is unclear what club will be Suarez’s next, but rumor has it he doesn’t want to leave European football just yet, and that he has no interest moving to the MLS.
