Barcelona is hiding a lot -- Gerard Pique

Former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué hits at the club for its failure to maintain honesty and transparency with its supporters.

Coming head on at the club’s hierarchy, Gerard Piqué has issued a stern warning to Barcelona, urging them to come clean regarding their financial predicament.

Barcelona currently finds itself in a challenging financial situation, with the club exceeding its LaLiga-imposed annual spending limit by approximately €200 million, set at €204 million. As a consequence, the club is unable to register any potential new players or renew contracts.

Expressing his concerns, Piqué emphasized the importance of honesty and openness in addressing the club’s circumstances. He urged Barcelona not to mislead fans with false promises of success, particularly in competitions like the Champions League, if the financial means to compete are lacking.

During a conversation on Ibai Llanos’ Twitch channel, Piqué stated,

“The fans want honesty and transparency. If the reality is tough, then say it. What you cannot do is sell smoke and mirrors and say we’re going to win the Champions League if you then don’t have the money to compete.”

He further highlighted the significance of truthfulness, particularly to the club’s members, known as socios, stressing that being forthright about the club’s situation is what they value most.

Piqué illustrated his point by referencing hypothetical scenarios involving high-profile players like Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé, cautioning against making promises without the means to fulfill them.
