Liverpool vs. Manchester City: What to expect

Emotions are running high, words have been said and narratives have already been established but what hasn’t happened is Liverpool versus Manchester City at Anfield.

Of all games that stand in the balance to both teams this season, there hasn’t been any that holds more importance or meaning than it does now between Liverpool and Manchester City. Whoever wins, gets the upper hand in the title race. Whoever comes out on top, will come out with confidence, ready to take on the next fixtures knowing everything is in their hands.

Hence, the anxiety over who wins, who looses, or who stands to gain more from dropped points between both pair. Will Manchester City emerge victors or will it be Liverpool in front of its home fans?

Aside the words of who will emerge victors, there is also the underlining narrative that this is Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola’s last ever meeting in the premier league, if not their last ever meeting this season and in general.

Either of them will be eager to win the tie, with Klopp likely to strengthen his head to head record against Guardiola or risk Guardiola matching his win ratio over him.

For the players however, the Manchester City stars following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s statement a few days ago, will be eager to prove themselves and defend their club, and perhaps make a statement today and to the world.

Liverpool on the other hand, will have players hungry for a win today despite currently short in depth, hence getting a win over Manchester City today will mean more for the Reds.

For their title rivals, Arsenal however, Mikel Arteta’s side will be hoping for no victors if possible as the Gunners currently sit top of the premier league food chain.
