Lagos discharges 11 COVID-19 patients as Osun records 6 new cases

On Thursday, Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced that eleven coronavirus patients have been discharged at the Infectious Disease Centre, Yaba Mainland Hospital.

Sanwo-Olu, who disclosed this in a post on his Twitter page, said the patients, which include two female and nine males tested negative.

The Governor further thanked the health workers treating the patients. The tweet reads, “I am happy to break to you, my good people of Lagos, the news of the release today of 11 more patients from our facility in Yaba.

“They have fully recovered and have tested negative to #COVID19 and have been allowed to return home to their families. The patients include two females and nine males. Their results came out negative in two rounds of tests.

“ I want to use this opportunity to, once again, thank our frontline health workers and other professionals for their service. Let me reiterate that this is not the time to relax, but to maintain our vigilance because of the community infection that we are beginning to see.”

Meanwhile six new cases of coronavirus has been recorded in Osun state, bringing the number of patients in the state to 20.

Rafiu Isamotu, commissioner for health, broke the news on Thursday. He said all the 127 Ivory Coast returnees had been tested and 18 of them had returned positive.

The Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) had on Wednesday announced that nine of the returnees who came into the country by land tested positive for the disease.

As a means of containing the spread of the disease, Gboyega Oyetola, the governor, had ordered shut the borders with neighbouring states and imposed a lockdown. He also signed the Diseases (Emergency Prevention) Regulations, law 2020.
