It Was Really Close—Ronaldo Comes Clean

It was so close, Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo reveals about his summer transfer to Manchester United in 2021.

The transfer by now is of course no longer a news topic as it was widely known how Manchester City and even Pep Guardiola actively sought the signature of the former Real Madrid star to the Etihad.

The forward for Manchester United, revealed that he was on the verge of leaving for rival Manchester City in the summer of 2021.

Additionally, Ronaldo stated that other teams last year expressed interest in acquiring him from Juventus, and that the news that Manchester United wanted him back took him by surprise.

For the 37-year-old his return to the Red Devils was all about him listening to “his heart.”

“Well, honestly, it [moving to City] was close. They spoke a lot, and Guardiola said two weeks ago that they tried hard to have me.

“But, as you know, my history is at Manchester United. Your heart, you’re feeling the way you did before, and it made the difference. And of course, as well, Sir Alex Ferguson.

“So I took the decisions and I repeat: I was with conscience that it was a good decision.

“Things changed around in 72 hours. You plan or they spoke, not only Man City but other clubs too. Man Utd wasn’t part of those teams but it surprised everybody, even me,” Ronaldo said.

Ronaldo, in the initial episodes of the interview with Piers Morgan, claimed he felt “betrayed by the club”.

Additionally, it was made clear that he did not respect manager Erik ten Hag.
