I Can’t Celebrate My Birthday – Kanayo O Kanayo Reacts To 2023 Elections

Nollywood actor and lawyer, Kanayo O Kanayo, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the outcome of the just concluded 2023 Presidential election in Nigeria, which coincides with his birthday on March 1st, 2023.

Kanayo took to his social media page to explain why he is not in a celebratory mood.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emerged as the winner of the Presidential race after amassing a higher voter turnout ahead of his counterparts from other political parties. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, came second, while the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Peter Obi, emerged third.

Kanayo expressed his disappointment with the outcome of the election and accused INEC of selling “shame” to Nigerians, despite being funded by taxpayers’ money. He called out the electoral umpire for allegedly compromising the integrity of the election and questioned the transparency of the process.

In a video posted on his social media page, Kanayo said, “I am not celebrating my birthday today because INEC sold SHAME in the market. God bless you my fans and well-wishers for your support and prayers.”

Kanayo is a well-known actor in the Nigerian movie industry, popularly known for his role in the movie “Living in Bondage.” He is also a trained lawyer and has been vocal about social and political issues in Nigeria.

The 2023 Presidential election in Nigeria was a closely contested race, with 73 presidential candidates representing various political parties. The election has been marred by allegations of vote-buying, ballot box snatching, and voter intimidation. However, INEC has assured Nigerians of the transparency and fairness of the election process.
