Burna Boy loses in all Categories at 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards

Victory eludes Nigeria’s Burna Boy in all categories he was nominated in at the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards.

In a disappointing turn of events, Grammy Award-winning artist Burna Boy faced a clean sweep of losses at the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards, held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, USA on Tuesday night.

The 32-year-old Nigerian singer was nominated in seven categories but failed to secure victory in any of them.

Burna Boy lost the coveted titles of Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, and Best Live Performer of the Year, all of which were claimed by American rapper Kendrick Lamar.

Furthermore, Burna Boy was denied the title of Hustler of the Year, an honor that went to rapper and filmmaker 50 Cent.

The Best Collaboration of the Year award, for his song ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ featuring 21 Savage, eluded him, as it was awarded to Lil Durk and J. Cole for their collaboration ‘All My Life.’

Burna Boy’s aspirations for the Best Hip Hop Video also fell short, with rapper Lil Uzi Vert emerging victorious. Moreover, he failed to clinch the Song of the Year award.

On a brighter note, Ghanaian artist Black Sherif triumphed in the Best International Flow category, outperforming strong contenders like the late South African rapper AKA, K.O, France’s Gazo and Ninho, as well as UK artists J Hus and Central Cee, among others.
