BREAKING: Many trapped as popular Abuja hotel collapses [Video]
Many expressed fear and concern as a four-storey building connected to the Westbrook Hotel in the Garki region of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) fell on Monday night, July 1.
As of the time of filing this report, many customers and workers were said to have been trapped in the rubble while rescue operations persisted.
The Punch claims that a former governor of a state in the Southeast is supposedly the owner of the Westbrook Hotel.
Pleading anonymity, one eyewitness said that he saw two stranded individuals being hauled out from the debris and sent to the hospital and suggested that there could be fatalities.
“There is a possibility that there could be some people inside the collapsed building who may have died. I saw two people being pulled out from the rubble now and taken to the hospital while rescue operations are ongoing. The emergency responders are not coordinated yet for efficient operations,” he said.
