NAFDAC cracks down on counterfeit cosmetics peddlers in Abuja

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) carried out a significant operation on Wednesday in Abuja, resulting in the apprehension of five individuals for peddling counterfeit cosmetics.

The arrests took place across the Garki and Wuse districts as part of NAFDAC’s concerted efforts to crack down on the circulation of substandard goods.

Embugushiki-Musa Godiya, NAFDAC’s Head of Investigation and Enforcement for the Federal Taskforce, confirmed the arrests and indicated that the suspects would undergo thorough investigation procedures.

NAFDAC remains steadfast in its mission to eliminate counterfeit cosmetics and other fraudulent products from the nation’s market. Despite stringent border security measures, some counterfeit items still manage to infiltrate the country illegally.

The seized cosmetics, estimated at a market value of N35 million, will undergo a detailed examination to ascertain the full extent of the suspects’ involvement. NAFDAC intends to pursue regulatory action, potentially including prosecution, against those found culpable for the crime.
