Arsenal Sit 8 Points Top Of EPL With All Eyes On Liverpool

Arsenal must surely have the best underdog story in recent years as the Gunners continue their form pre-world cup into the restart of the season in fine form, taking down names and kicking in goals.

Smile Arsenal fans, this trophy might end up at the Emirates after all.

It all began for the Gunners when the Hammers of West Ham stole an early lead right from under their noses into half-time, creating a shocker in fans’ minds of the game not being the traditional win Mikel Arteta’s team may have thought.

There was no Gabriel Jesus, the chances of a comeback may be slim, but somehow, Eddie Nketiah came to be the proverbial savior called to replace Jesus, and of course, he did.

Following a 3-1 victory over West Ham on Boxing Day, Arsenal now leads the Premier League standings by seven points.

The Gunners had to rally after falling down 1-0 in order to win all three points in their first match following the 2022 World Cup.

After William Saliba fouled Jared Bowen in the box, Said Benrahma scored the resulting penalty kick to give the Hammers the lead.

Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Eddie Nketiah scored goals for Arsenal to help them rally in the second half.

The team led by Mikel Arteta currently has 40 points, seven more than Newcastle United in second place and eight more than Manchester City, the current league winners, who visit Leeds on Wednesday.

Should the gunners continue this form, Manchester City may have a tough time on their hands as the team may turn out to be a different side compared to the Liverpool sitting top on Christmas and ending up not crossing the finishing line.
