The Premier League 2022/23 season officially began with Arsenal taking on Crystal Palace at night time of Friday, with the Gunners top of the table heading into the weekend.

It certainly is the stuff of dreams for every Arsenal fan considering how the North London club started the previous season against promoted Brentford with a 2-0 loss.

Gabriel Martinelli marked himself as the first Premier League goal scorer this season as he slotted in a goal in the 20th minute via a header from a cross by Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The Ukraine international looked to have settled well into the Arsenal team and in Mikel Arteta’s system as he recorded his first assist for his new club after his exit from Manchester City this summer.

Although the Gunners started the game quite in fine form, the intensity from Arsenal dropped quite a bit in the second half as Crystal Palace began dominating possession in search for an equalizer while being a goal though.

It was only the away side’s stiff defense line that kept whatever threats the Eagles could throw at them at bay.

Thankfully an own goal by Marc Guehi that was forced by a Saka cross helped Arsenal keep all 3 points on opening night to keep themselves top of the table heading into the weekend.

The Premier League season officially begins with Arsenal winning away to Crystal Palace on a 2-0 score line to see themselves top of the league and Crystal Palace sitting at 20th for now.
