Alejandro Garnacho truth paints Messi as a 'Petty' player

If rumors and social media narratives can be trusted, Argentine International, Alejandro Garnacho may just about be the only Argentinian alive that idolizes Portuguese legend, Cristiano Ronaldo instead of national hero, Lionel Messi. And judging from Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand’s recent comments, the fact that Garnacho chooses to idolize Ronaldo is a problem on its own end.

In a new episode of his podcast, former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand reveals how deep the rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo may be, even behind the scenes.

Stating in his Vibe with Five podcast, Rio Ferdinand revealed that Lionel Messi unfollowed Alejandro Garnacho on Instagram due to the young winger’s open admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to Ferdinand, the fact that Garnocho made no secret of his preference for the Portuguese superstar, reportedly led to Messi snubbing the Manchester United academy graduate on social media.

Ferdinand praised Garnacho for his outspoken support, stating,

Alejandro Garnacho Lionel Messi Argentina 2023

“You know what I like about him? He doesn’t give a f*ck. Garnacho told me that Messi unfollowed him just because he makes no secret of preferring Ronaldo. He comes out, don’t care, ‘I’m a Ronaldo man’. Who’s the GOAT? Ronaldo. (Even) when he’s in the Argentina squad.”

The incident dates back to April 2022 when fans noticed Messi had unfollowed Garnacho after the youngster posted a picture of Ronaldo, hailing him as the greatest of all time. Despite previously referring to Messi as an “idol,” Garnacho remains without a follow-back from the Argentine superstar, despite now being colleagues in the senior Argentina squad.

Meanwhile, Messi would have had the chance to witness Garnacho’s latest stunning goal for United—a remarkable overhead kick against Everton. Ferdinand compared Garnacho’s goal to Wayne Rooney’s iconic bicycle kick against City in 2011, favoring Garnacho’s strike:

“Garnacho. One was off a shin pad, the other was off his boot. I’m sorry, Wazza. It was nuts. That goal is better than Rooney’s.”
