2024 UTME: JAMB reveals banned items for candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a stern warning to candidates gearing up for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), cautioning against bringing banned items into examination halls.

The UTME will be held in over 700 Computer Based Test (CBT) centres across the country from Friday, April 19, 2024, to Monday, April 29, 2024. A total of 1,985,642 candidates have successfully enrolled to take the 2024 UTME.

In a recent publication made available to the press on Monday in Abuja, JAMB reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards examination violations and any unethical acts that could jeopardise the examinations’ integrity.

Candidates are asked to strictly follow the etiquette and guidelines indicated in their notification slips, as well as be on time at their examination venues, to facilitate flawless biometric verification before entering the exam hall.

JAMB emphasized that candidates who arrive at the venue 30 minutes past the scheduled time will be barred from sitting the examination and marked as absent.

JAMB has prohibited various items from exam centres, including smart watches, smart lenses (unprescribed spectacles), calculators, smart rings, smart pens, Bluetooth gadgets, and flash drives in response to recent examination malpractices.

Furthermore, candidates should avoid embellishing their palms with decorative designs or tattoos, as they may interfere with biometric screening methods.

Parents are severely barred from loitering near examination sites since JAMB has a stringent policy against parental presence during exams.

Any applicant discovered in the presence of a parent within the examination area will face penalties. JAMB’s extensive standards are intended to protect the integrity of the UTME and ensure a fair and transparent examination process for all applicants.
