Police capture alleged terrorist leader in Yobe State
The Yobe State Police Command disclosed on Monday the successful apprehension of Haruna Mohammed, aged 40, suspected to be a key figure in a notorious terrorist group.
Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the command, informed reporters in Damaturu that the State Intelligent Department (SID) was responsible for the Yobe terrorist leader’s arrest.
According to Abdulkarim, Mohammed has been implicated in a series of crimes including making threatening phone calls to extort money and valuables from victims across towns, villages, and neighbouring states.
“The command had been actively pursuing Mohammed due to his involvement in criminal activities,” Abdulkarim stated, citing a recent report from a victim in Siminti village who alleged a demand of N3 million under threat of harm to his family.
“On June 16, during a targeted intelligence operation, SID detectives apprehended Mohammed in Nangillam village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area.
The suspect has confessed to the crimes and provided information on other members of the syndicate, who are currently under investigation,” Abdulkarim added.
He urged local communities to promptly report security breaches and assured continued efforts by the command to eliminate criminal activities in Yobe State.
