HURIWA calls for unity against herders terrorism

Prominent Civil Rights Advocacy group, HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA), has condemned the persistent terror attacks in all parts of South East Nigeria by terrorists masquerading as cattle herders.

The group specifically described the recent invasion by Fulani armed herders of Nimbo community in Enugu State as one attack too many.

The attack, which occurred late Sunday evening, resulted in loss of lives and critical injuries, with property worth billions destroyed.

HURIWA called the attack despicable, reprehensible, and condemnable, urging swift action from the Enugu state governor to protect the people.

Impeccable sources disclosed that the herders attacked mourners at Ugwuijoro Nimbo community, leaving behind tears and sorrow.

Some of those killed were identified as Okeh Simon Ugwu Oruku, Okeh Chukwuebuka, Julius Ogbonna Odiegwu, and Gabriel Ugwor Ezea.

Expressing regret, HURIWA criticized the Enugu state governor for allegedly neglecting rural farming communities’ security, despite embarking on overseas tours and visits to Abuja.

The group highlighted the vulnerability of rural areas to armed herder attacks and the lack of preemptive security measures.

Reacting to the assault, HURIWA urged Governor Peter Mbah to defend Enugu State residents by implementing strong measures against armed invaders.

The group called for the establishment of an armed civilian volunteer force to collaborate with regular security services in combating terrorism.

Advocating for South East-wide armed civilian security volunteers, HURIWA emphasized the right of Ndigbo to own their farming communities and called for immediate action to prevent further attacks.

Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, National Coordinator of HURIWA, reiterated the urgent need for unity among South East governors to combat herders’ terrorism and safeguard the region’s residents.
