Wike remains my boss, our fight is over – Fubara surrenders

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has publicly affirmed his enduring respect and allegiance to his predecessor and the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

This significant moment took place in Port Harcourt during the rededication service for the 2023/2024 Legal Year, held at Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Church, where both leaders made their first joint public appearance since the onset of political discord in the state.

Governor Fubara, addressing the congregation, reiterated his unwavering loyalty to Wike, whom he consistently referred to as his mentor. He emphatically regarded the political upheaval that had shadowed the state as a bygone conflict, advocating for unity and harmony to continue the state’s progress, particularly given its status as a pivotal oil-producing region.

Emphasizing that past altercations should stay in the past, Governor Fubara expressed his commitment to transcending the challenging period. He assured citizens that his administration remains focused on fulfilling the promises made to them. Additionally, he cautioned his supporters against the use of defamatory language towards political adversaries, clarifying that such actions do not have his endorsement.

Governor Fubara concluded his address with a light-hearted request to the attendees, humorously suggesting a temporary halt to formal recognitions, to avoid what he quipped could be seen as another “impeachable offence”, adding a note of levity to the proceedings.

The rekindling of camaraderie between the two political figures marks a hopeful turn for the politics of Rivers State, suggesting a potential for more cohesive governance moving forward.
