What was he thinking? -- Carragher slam Xhaka

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher criticized Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka for his “ridiculous” decision to hit out at Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold during their Premier League clash at Anfield on Sunday.

Xhaka reacted negatively to a challenge on the left-hand side of the pitch and chose to lash out at Alexander-Arnold, who was playing in midfield instead of his usual defensive role.

At the time of the incident, Arsenal was leading the match 2-0, thanks to goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus. Manchester United legend Gary Neville, who was on Sky Sports match commentary, expressed confusion over Xhaka’s actions.

“He can’t get involved. He has been so good for Arsenal this season. That is exactly what Liverpool would want,” Neville said.

Carragher echoed Neville’s sentiments, saying, “What is he thinking? 2-0 up away at Anfield, he just throws his arm into Trent. Just ridiculous. The crowd gets up, the ball’s already gone. It is 2-0, we are almost at half-time.”

Xhaka’s decision to hit out at Alexander-Arnold did not sit well with fans either, as they took to social media to criticize the Swiss international’s behavior.

Liverpool eventually staged a comeback, with Bobby Firmino scoring the winning goal in the 87th minute to secure a 2-2 draw for the Reds. However, Xhaka’s actions will likely be remembered as a controversial moment in the game.
