What Buhari, Jonathan said on Akeredolu’s death
The demise of the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has drawn heartfelt condolences from former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, as the nation mourns the loss of the prominent political figure.
Governor Akeredolu, aged 67, succumbed to a prolonged battle with prostate cancer, leaving behind a legacy marked by his impactful leadership in law and politics.
President Buhari, through his spokesman Garba Shehu, expressed deep sorrow at the passing of his “valued friend,” extolling Akeredolu’s influential role as a towering figure in both the political and legal spheres.
Buhari conveyed his sympathies to Akeredolu’s family, the government of Ondo State, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), acknowledging the late governor’s inspirational leadership that touched the lives of many.
“I have lost a valued friend. I pray that his soul finds eternal peace. My thoughts are with the countless people who are inspired by his leadership in law and politics.
“My condolences to his family, the government and people of Ondo State and to our party, the All Progressives Congress,” President Buhari remarked in his tribute.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan also paid homage to the late Akeredolu, describing him as a sincere patriot and legal luminary who dedicated himself to principles of equity, justice, and national unity above personal and political interests.
In a personal condolence message, Jonathan lauded Akeredolu’s advocacy for constitutionalism, democracy, and good governance, highlighting his significant contributions to shaping democratic governance in Nigeria.
“Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu was a prominent lawyer and politician who helped shape democratic governance and promoted peace and development in Nigeria.
“He will be missed by many across the country and remembered for his forthrightness and acts of patriotism,” Jonathan expressed in his tribute.
