“We are not going back” — Patience Jonathan sets record straight
Roughly 9-years ago, Nigerians will recall former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan standing front and center campaigning for the re-election of her husband Goodluck Jonathan as Nigeria’s Commander-in-Chief. Flash-forward to 2024, the iconic First Lady debunks the rumors of return to the Aso Villa.
In a bold statement, Patience Jonathan officially shut down any speculation about former President Goodluck Jonathan’s return to the political stage in 2027.
Hosting the Greater Igbo Forum in Abuja, Patience Jonathan revealed that her husband has no interest in another presidential bid, declaring, “He has reached the pinnacle of political office. What is he looking for again?”

But that’s not all. In a surprising turn, the former First Lady called on the Igbo community to set aside political differences and work toward unity, urging them to prioritize the future of Nigeria and their children over personal ambitions.
Her message carries a broader appeal for national cohesion as she emphasizes the importance of love, unity, and cooperation—values she believes will move the country forward under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
This comes at a time when the country needs a proverbial hero to rescue the sinking economy and inspire hope. Ironically, it was the same situation Nigerians faced during her husband’s stewardship of the country’s national affair. Nigerians needed a hero and thus, came in the APC government.
