Former President Goodluck Jonathan loses eldest sister

The elder sister of Nigeria’s former President Goodluck Jonathan, Madam Obebhatein Jonathan, has reportedly passed away at the age of 70 after a brief illness. The sad news was announced by Jonathan’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze.

Madam Obebhatein, affectionately known as Amissi, breathed her last on Thursday at the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa. She was described in the official statement as a retired teacher, a successful businesswoman, a loving mother, and grandmother, known for leading a life dedicated to service to God and humanity.

The statement further highlighted her devout Christian faith, virtuous character, and her role as a source of inspiration to many both within and beyond her community.

The burial ceremony is set to take place on Tuesday, 16th February 2024, with specific details of the funeral rites to be announced by the family. Madam Obebhatein Jonathan is survived by three children, siblings, including former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and her mother, Mama Eunice Afeni-Jonathan.
