Virgil van Dijk leaves Liverpool fans worried for the future

Is there still a future at Liverpool? Virgil van Dijk leaves a lot of questions to be asked by fans and in turn puts the club owners in serious situations.

Jurgen Klopp’s exit at the end of the season could be in line to set some chain reactions to the Liverpool team if the club’s management takes on a laisser-faire approach in handling the future of the team.

And if there is anything more worrying for the fans, it is the Liverpool captain’s recent comments regarding the fate and future of the team moving forward.

Quoted by the times, Virgil van Dijk was quizzed on what the future holds for him in particular and the team, and the Dutchman gave reporters a rather puzzling response.

“That’s a big question, Well, I don’t know.” the Centre Back said.

Van Dijk then went further to address his own contract situation, saying “That is correct — good maths.” on the subject of his future at Liverpool.

The Netherlands Skipper goes on to add;

“Listen, I don’t know. The club will have a big job on their hands. That is well known. To replace the manager and replace not only the manager, the staff is leaving, and there are so many things that will change.

“So the club has a big job on its hands and I am very curious which direction that will go in. But when that will be announced we will see our situation. I can’t say much about it.”

This puts the Liverpool owners, Fenway Sports Group under serious pressure heading into the Summer to get things right, both with the manager and the Sporting director.

The captain also addressed his role moving forward;

“Obviously it will be the end of Jürgen Klopp’s era. I am very glad that I am still part of it. That is why I don’t like to speak about it. I am still part of it.

“That is my main focus and we will see at the end of the season. Hopefully, we have the success that we all dream of and fight for each day and, by then, there will probably be more clarification for what the club wants for the future and then we will see.”

It is no secret that a lot of the players within the Liverpool squad made the move to Anfield on the assurances of Jurgen Klopp, and now with the exit of the legendary icon, the stars would need questions asked and resolved as soon as possible, else Liverpool are headed for the banter era again.
