In a recent and deeply revealing interview with popular media personality Toke Makinwa, the renowned actor Jim Iyke shared how delayed grief had ended his marriage.

Jim Iyke originally appeared hesitant to discuss his marriage and divorce at the start of the interview. However, as Toke Makinwa gently urged him to relate his story, he revealed the reason for his relationship’s demise.

Jim Iyke blamed the breakdown of his marriage on postponed mourning. He admitted that the problem was his inability to properly grieve for his late mother.

The actor admitted that he had put off grieving, and that by the time he acknowledged his grief, it had already wreaked havoc on his marriage. His mother held a unique place in his heart, and her death was a particularly painful blow.

He also revealed that before his mother died, he was in the process of building a house for her.

Jim Iyke also noted that as the only male kid in his family, he had to assume the position of the strong male figure. This left him with little opportunity to express himself emotionally. While others in his family openly mourned, he acted as a tower of strength.

Only after the funeral services had concluded did Jim Iyke begin to confront his own emotions. He hesitated to pinpoint the root of his inner conflict at first, until he found himself disputing over petty items such as his mother’s possessions, notably her jewelry.

His difficulty to part with her possessions indicated that his mourning process was still ongoing.During this difficult time, Jim Iyke’s wife tried to offer emotional support and love, but he admitted that he was unable of reciprocating her feelings.

Instead, he directed the majority of his attention toward their child, causing conflict in his marriage. He described his wife’s natural jealously as he lavished care on their child at a time when she needed it as well.

In an attempt to address Jim Iyke’s inner turmoil, his wife proposed therapy as a possible solution.

He hesitated, clinging to a long-held idea that treatment was inappropriate for an African guy like him. In retrospect, he regrets not taking advantage of this professional assistance chance.

His wife eventually snapped, understanding that Jim Iyke’s continuous grieving over his mother had destroyed their marriage.

Despite the end of their marriage, Jim Iyke still speaks highly of his ex-wife and holds her in high respect. He treasures their time together and the partnership that marriage provided.

In fact, he revealed his deep affection for the institution of marriage and indicated a wish to revisit it in the future, relishing the opportunity to be responsible for and share his life with someone.
