Twitter sets up office in Africa, snubs Nigeria as headquarters

Twitter, on Monday, disclosed that it has established an African base in Ghana and is currently employing staff for its office.

The CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey announced this as saying, “Twitter is now present on the continent”, with the flag of Ghana as a representation about its foothold.

Nigeria was blatantly disregarded by the huge social media platform.

Twitter, in a statement, on Monday declared that it is searching for professionals to join quite a few teams which include product, design, engineering, marketing and communications.

“Full details on current job openings can be found on the Twitter Careers site”, the company stated, in the statement by Kayvon Beykpour and Uche Adegbite.

The Product Lead, Twitter and Co-Founder, Periscope, is Beykpour while the Director, Product Management, Global Markets is Adegbite.

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, was thrilled by the news as he wrote on Twitter.

Akufo-Addo said, “The choice of Ghana as HQ for Twitter’s Africa operations is EXCELLENT news. Gov’t and Ghanaians welcome very much this announcement and the confidence reposed in our country.

“As I indicated to @Jack in our virtual meeting of 7th April 2021, this is the start of a beautiful partnership between Twitter and Ghana, which is critical for the dev’t of Ghana’s hugely important tech sector.

“These are exciting times to be in, and to do business in Ghana.”
