'The Other side of Life' -- What you don't know of Junior Pope

Renowned Nollywood actor Pope Obumneme Odonwodo, famously known as Junior Pope, tragically lost his life during a movie shoot on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on the Anam River in Anambra State when the boat carrying Junior Pope and three of his colleagues capsized while returning from a film location.

Junior Pope, along with his colleagues, encountered the fatal accident while filming scenes for an upcoming movie titled “The Other Side Of Life.”

Despite efforts to rescue them, Junior Pope and three others succumbed to the capsizing, with their bodies yet to be recovered as of the latest reports.

Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, confirmed the devastating news on Thursday, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the talented actor and his companions. Junior Pope, known for his dynamic roles portraying criminals, villains, and hitmen, had made a significant mark in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Born on May 7, 1984, in Cameroon, Junior Pope later moved to Nigeria, hailing from Ukehe in Enugu State. He embarked on his acting journey in 2006 and appeared in over 150 Nollywood productions, showcasing his versatility and talent on screen.

Having graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with a degree in Accounting, Junior Pope balanced his acting career with family life.

He married Jennifer Awele in 2014, and their union was blessed with three children. A devoted Christian, Junior Pope was known for his strong faith and often shared moments of prayer with his fans.

The tragic incident occurred just a day after Junior Pope shared a video of himself offering prayers for a safe journey, adding a poignant twist to the heartbreaking news.

Following his untimely demise, the Actors Guild of Nigeria declared April 11 as a ‘No shooting day’ in his honor.

Additionally, the Guild imposed an indefinite ban on filming in riverine areas and boat riding, while also prohibiting actors from participating in any projects associated with the producer of the ill-fated movie.

The sudden loss of Junior Pope has sent shockwaves throughout the Nigerian film industry, leaving colleagues, fans, and loved ones mourning the passing of a talented actor whose legacy will continue to resonate in Nollywood.
