Former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has commented on Governor Nyesom Wike’s request for a refund of N80 billion used for the development of federal roads in Rivers State.

During the commissioning of the Rumuokwuta-Rumuola flyover in Port Harcourt, President-elect Bola Tinubu responded by stating that he did not owe the Rivers government anything for building the federal roads.

However, Tinubu also emphasized that if Wike wants a refund for the funds used in constructing the federal roads, he will have to lobby for it.

Senator Sani responded to the situation on his verified Twitter account, pointing out that state governments have a habit of executing federal projects without the consent of the federal government.

Furthermore, he said that state governments should not take credit for these projects and demand large refunds with the assistance of the Ministries of Finance and Works.

He also noted that Tinubu’s response to Wike demonstrates that he is aware of these tactics used by state governors.

It’s not uncommon for state governments in Nigeria to initiate federal projects without the federal government’s consent.

They often take credit for these projects and demand excessive refunds, typically with the support of the Ministries of Finance and Works.

However, Senator Sani believes that this behavior should stop.
