Premier League Or Super League: Is Klopp being forced out?

The news that Jurgen Klopp would be departing Liverpool at the end of the current season was a shocker no one saw coming not even famous journalist, Fabrizio Romano, until it was announced by the club and the man himself.

However, despite Jurgen Klopp maintaining that his departure from Anfield isn’t due to any external factor whatsoever and is largely a decision he came up with due to the exhaustion of the job, one can’t help but wonder if there is more to the detail.

Prior to the start of the season and perhaps the early half of the season, comments made by the German made no hints about him suffering any exhaustion from the job. In fact, Klopp insisted he still had enough energy to run for more years if asked to.

Then a few weeks ago, rumors came out that the club were on the verge of offering the manager another extension to remain with the club past the original date his last contract was meant to expire; which was 2026.

However, not long ago, a report came forth that shook the Sports media as word came out that the European Court of Justice had given the infamous European Super League the legal right to existence opposite sanctions from other football entities like FIFA, UEFA and the like.

Of course, many European clubs trooped in to reject joining the Super League; with Premier League clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and even Bundesliga and Serie A giants coming forth to reject the idea.

What stood interesting though, was Liverpool’s delay in releasing a statement rejecting its inclusion in the Super League. The club later on released a statement, but its wordings were in fact more of a political statement than it was an outright rejection of the Super League.

Some days later, Jurgen Klopp made a statement that many might read extra layers into when he was asked about the Super League. The German did not condemn nor approve of the Super League, but made a quote that might hint at what Liverpool’s true opinions on the European Super League were behind the scenes.

Even more worrying were Anas Laghrari, ESL boss’ comments on 20 clubs declaring their secret interests in joining the European Super League.

Laghrari said;

“About 20 of them are very, very motivated by the project. We already have enough clubs to start a competition.

“I don’t want to say their names because I don’t want to expose them. A club that has already given its commitment, but that published a statement to position itself against it, told us, ‘It’s exactly the same as when you confirm a coach for the job and fire him in the following weeks…”

Now, this raises questions as weeks after the announcement by the European Court of Justice, Jurgen Klopp comes forward with the confirmation that he would be departing the club at the end of the season.

Is Liverpool among the clubs Laghari is talking about? And is Jurgen Klopp’s decision to leave Merseyside backed by Liverpool’s looming inclusion in the European Super League?

This all seems coincidental but if the decision was for Klopp to leave Liverpool after the conclusion of the current season was one that came out of ‘his exhaustion’ in the job, then things look very fishy. It is of course all speculation at this stage as there are more questions right now despite Klopp’s insistence that the decision was solely his.

Then again, there is also the Premier League; as a body and a league. Who can deny the league playing a role in forcing Klopp out from Merseyside?

After all, a number of decisions have gone against his side, with rumors of some Premier League referees holding some grievances with Klopp in recent times.

Either or, neither nor, Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool is an odd one that isn’t just about ‘energy’ even if it might be.
