Adegboyega Oyetola Osun State Governor has expressed his interest to contest for a second term in office, Top Naija can confirm.
Governor Oyetola, who made this known Thursday during an unscheduled visit to the meeting of the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers in Osogbo, declared that his intention to run for a second term was part of efforts to consolidate on the good works and appreciable performance of his administration.
While seeking the blessings of the monarchs, the Osun Governor, was sworn in to office on November 27, 2018, appealed to them to persist in their prayers for the success of his administration.
He noted that their prayers had been the driving force motivating him to put more into governance.
Responding, the Chairman of the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers, the Ooni of Ife, Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II reminded the Governor that they were apolitical as royal fathers.
Ooni Ogunwusi also assured that the council had dutifully prayed for him and wished him well in his endeavour.
TopNaija understands that Oyetola contested the Osun State gubernatorial candidate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress for the September 22, 2018 gubernatorial election and he won.
Oyetola was a member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), and has been in the party through its metamorphosis to Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and now the All Progressives Congress (APC). In July 2018, he contested with Osun state House of Representatives deputy speaker Yusuf Lasun and Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly Nojeem Salaam, Dr Samuel Ibiyemi; Publisher Nigerian NewsDirect Newspapers, Adelere Oriolowo, Moshood Adeoti amongst others for the All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidacy of the September 22, 2018 gubernatorial election in Osun state and won.
