Obaseki meets Oshiomhole, says political feud is ‘nothing personal’
On Saturday, Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo with Adams Oshiomhole, his predecessor and former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at an event in the state.
Recall that Obaseki fell out with Oshiomhole, his predecessor, ahead of the 2020 governorship election in the state.
The fierce battle began over political differences and this led to the defection of Obaseki from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite the efforts of some stakeholders to reconcile them.
Their misunderstanding reached its height when the Edo house of assembly was divided in its support of both politicians.
Obaseki would later seek reelection under the PDP and subsequently defeated Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the APC who had the backing of Oshiomhole.
Despite trading words multiple times while the rift lasted, Obaseki and Oshiomhole were civil towards each other when they met in Auchi, during the birthday thanksgiving of Thomas Oleghe at Immaculate Conception Cathedral.
While speaking with journalists after the event, Obaseki said he has nothing against his predecessor, but only disagrees with his style of politics.
“I don’t have anything personal against Oshiomhole. I may not like his politics, but he has not done anything personal against me. We all are interacting with the interest of the country and the development of our community at heart,” he said.
Oshiomhole, who also spoke with journalists, described Obaseki as “his brother and friend.”
“Once the governor speaks, the matter ends,” he said.
TopNaija reports that Obaseki has recently been put under tension by the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja after it reserved ruling in the case filed by the All Progressives Congress to invalidate his re-election.
