Our goal is to make sure nothing works in Nigeria -- Simon Ekpa

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has issued a list of 97 individuals wanted for their involvement in various violent activities across the country. Among those named is Simon Ekpa, a prominent figure identified as a faction leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed the list on Friday, marking a decisive step in the government’s efforts to combat insecurity.

This action follows earlier reports indicating plans by military authorities to identify and declare several individuals wanted for their roles in perpetuating violence.

Unlike previous instances where rewards were offered for information leading to the apprehension of wanted individuals, this list, comprising 97 names, does not include any monetary incentives. This underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to bringing perpetrators of violence to justice.

The individuals listed span various regions of the country, including rebels from the South-East and North Central, as well as terrorists operating in the North East and North West. Notable figures sought in the bandit-infested North West Zone include Alhaji Shingi and Malindi Yakubu, among others, indicative of the government’s determination to root out criminal elements from affected areas.

Similarly, in the insurgency-plagued North East, individuals such as Abu Zaida and Modu Sulum have been identified as wanted, highlighting the severity of the security situation in these regions. Additionally, 21 insurgents and violent criminals have been designated as wanted in the Southeast and North Central areas, reflecting the widespread nature of security challenges confronting the nation.

Simon Ekpa’s inclusion in the list underscores the government’s resolve to hold accountable all individuals involved in violent activities, regardless of their affiliations.

The Defence Headquarters has called on citizens with any information regarding the whereabouts of these wanted individuals to come forward and assist in their apprehension, emphasising the collective responsibility of all citizens to ensure peace and security in the country.
