Nigerian army launches home ownership scheme for soldiers — COAS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has revealed that the Nigerian Army has initiated a home ownership scheme for all soldiers across the country.

Known as the ‘Affordable House Ownership Option for All Soldiers,’ this scheme aims to facilitate the acquisition of two or three-bedroom houses for personnel at single-digit interest rates.

Speaking at a workshop organized by the Army’s Directorate of Inspection and Compliance in Makurdi, Lagbaja emphasized the importance of ensuring the success of the scheme, assuring that measures have been implemented to prevent past failures.

Maj.-Gen. Hillary Nzan, representing the COAS, highlighted additional welfare efforts, including medical services and educational facilities enhancement, aimed at boosting troop morale and well-being.

Lagbaja also underscored the focus on renovating, upgrading, and equipping medical facilities such as the Nigerian Army Reference Hospitals in Kaduna and Yaba to international standards.

Addressing inspection officers, Lagbaja urged efficient project management to ensure successful execution, commending the Directorate of Inspections and Compliance for organizing a workshop to enhance project monitoring and evaluation skills.

Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Jalo, the Director of Inspection and Compliance, emphasized the workshop’s goal of ensuring adherence to national regulations and international standards in executing Nigerian Army projects.
