Army raids in Abuja, Oyo lead to key arrests

The 1 Division Nigerian Army has announced that its troops have neutralized seven insurgents and recovered an array of weapons and motorcycles in Kaduna.

This was revealed in a statement issued by Lt-Col. Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 1 Division Nigerian Army, on Monday.

Lt-Col. Yahaya detailed that troops stationed at a blocking position in Udawa conducted a fighting patrol along the Udawa-Kurebe road on May 19.

During this aggressive patrol, the troops engaged with insurgents, leading to the elimination of five terrorists and violent extremists.

Items recovered from the encounter included a pump action gun, six cartridges, an empty AK-47 rifle magazine, an MP3 radio, a phone battery, two Baofeng radios and chargers, four memory cards, two SIM cards, and four charms.

In a related incident, troops deployed at Sabo Birni in Igabi Local Government Area intercepted suspected terrorist movements in the Baka general area on May 19.

Following a firefight, the terrorists fled to nearby hills with gunshot wounds. The troops recovered an AK-47 rifle and two motorcycles, with blood stains marking the scene.

Additionally, troops positioned at Kwaga village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area made contact with terrorists, neutralizing two of them. Items seized included two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, and two motorcycles.

Maj-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 1 Division and Commander of Operation Whirl Punch, commended the troops for their aggressive stance and urged them to maintain the pressure on terrorists, insurgents, and violent extremists.

He called on citizens to report individuals with gunshot wounds seeking medical help to the Nigerian Army or nearest security agencies.

Lt-Col. Yahaya also appealed to the people of Kaduna and Niger states to provide timely and actionable intelligence to the Army and other security agencies for prompt action.
