Manchester United put in place 4-man shortlist for January transfer

Manchester United has reportedly honed in on a quartet of ‘low-cost’ attacking talents in their pursuit to strengthen their offensive line during the ongoing January transfer window.

As per insights from The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell and Dan Sheldon, the club has identified four potential additions to bolster their attacking prowess.

Among the targeted players are Bayern Munich’s Erik Choupo-Moting and Thomas Muller, RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, and Serhou Guirassy from VfB Stuttgart.

The reported inclusion of Thomas Muller in the shortlist raises some eyebrows however, as the German international recently extended his contract with Bayern Munich.

The focus on cost-effective solutions aligns with Erik ten Hag’s strategy to fortify the team’s attacking capabilities for the latter part of the season.

United’s performance in the attacking third has left room for improvement this season, notably marked by 14 losses across various competitions.

The Premier League campaign has been particularly challenging, with nine defeats contributing to their current seventh-place standing in the league table.

The significant gap of 14 points behind league leaders Liverpool after 20 games underscores the urgency for United to enhance their offensive output. With a mere 22 goals scored in the league so far, the club is actively seeking reinforcements to bolster their attacking prowess.
