Manchester United not done with Chelsea as new links emerges

Manchester United is reportedly eyeing a surprising move for former Chelsea forward Timo Werner as part of their quest for attacking reinforcement in the January transfer window. Sky Germany revealed that the Red Devils have shown interest by initiating discussions regarding Werner’s potential transfer.

The German international, currently with RB Leipzig, has purportedly expressed discontent over his limited playing time since rejoining the club in 2022. Despite a prolific 16-goal contribution in the previous season, Werner has struggled to make an impact this term, registering only two goals in eight Bundesliga appearances, amassing a mere 203 minutes on the pitch.

While no formal bid or negotiations have been confirmed, Werner is said to be under consideration by Erik ten Hag as a potential addition to the squad at Manchester United.

Previously linked with clubs like Real Madrid, Fulham, Crystal Palace, and West Ham, Werner’s stint in the Premier League with Chelsea was underwhelming. His tenure saw him score only 10 goals across 56 appearances over two seasons following a significant £47.5 million transfer to Chelsea. Remarkably, he returned to RB Leipzig just a year later for £25.3 million.

Reports from BILD suggest that Werner faced challenges in England due to media scrutiny and the weight of expectations, which may have contributed to his dissatisfaction during his time at Chelsea.

Excluded from recent Germany national team call-ups, Werner’s last appearance for his country dates back to June 2022 in the UEFA Nations League before Julian Nagelsmann assumed the managerial role.

Currently in England for Leipzig’s crucial Champions League encounter against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, Werner’s future remains uncertain amid growing speculation about a potential move to Manchester United.
