Liverpool vs. Chelsea: A chance at Carabao revenge for the Blues

Carabao Cup final; a rare chance for Chelsea to get one over Liverpool in a Cup final.

2021/22 season is one that Chelsea fans will be eager to forget about as quickly as the Liverpool fans will want to remember. A season of contrasting fortunes for both clubs as the Red fanbase will remember a Quadruple run that sadly ended in a domestic double whereas the Blues will forever rue for failing to get their hands on at least a domestic cup.

The 2021/22 season saw Liverpool and Chelsea begin the season on fine form, almost running parallels on goals scored ratio for the first 3 games of the season under then manager, Thomas Tuchel. Though the Blues may have fallen at a latter stage of the season in the premier league title race, the West-London side still had a good run in the domestic competitions; the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.

Hand in hand, the Blues and the Reds ran parallel in those competitions, eventually seeing themselves into the finals of both cups; a déjà vu situation through and through that saw Liverpool come out the victor in the same manner, twice.

It was a penalty tie that determined the winner after both games resulted in twin score lines of 0-0 in normal and extra time.

The Blues in both games felt done by, particularly in the manner they crashed out of the game after holding out a high flying Reds team at bay for roughly 120 minutes. There were also debates as to Romelu Lukaku’s supposed winner that was ruled out for offside in the FA Cup final.

Liverpool vs. Chelsea: A chance at Carabao revenge for the Blues

To summarize, the 2021/22 season was a Liverpool season to celebrate, and a Chelsea season to forget, but time being the irony, the 2023/24 season presents itself for a change of narratives for the Blues.

The West-London side are on the road for yet another Carabao Cup final assuming they are able to get past their Semi-Final opponent, Middlesbrough. The Reds likewise, are in the semi-final to face off another West-London side in Fulham, who are ironically neighbors to Chelsea.

The Cottagers stand a chance to avenge their Blue neighbors by eliminating Liverpool in the Semis to set up a London derby final between both West London teams, or risk Liverpool getting into the final and facing Chelsea themselves.

Either way, the road to the Carabao Cup final is a revenge in motion for Chelsea this time around. For the Reds, it is all about preventing that revenge from ever happening.
