Liverpool request release of VAR audio conversation in Spurs game

Liverpool Football Club has taken a significant step in the aftermath of a contentious disallowed goal against Tottenham Hotspur.

The club has officially requested access to the audio recording related to the goal incident, following an admission of a major officiating error by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL).

The incident in question occurred during Liverpool‘s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, where Colombian forward Luis Diaz had a goal disallowed.

The linesman flagged for offside, and despite a subsequent VAR review that suggested Diaz was onside due to Cristian Romero’s positioning, the on-field decision to disallow the goal stood.

This comes on the back of a released a statement by the PGMOL acknowledging a “significant human error” in the decision-making process.

Additionally, it was revealed that VAR mistakenly believed the on-field call was made to award the goal, compounding the confusion.

As part of their quest for transparency and clarity, Liverpool has now requested access to the audio exchange related to the disallowed goal, as reported by the BBC.

ESPN has already indicated that PGMOL is prepared to make the audio available, aligning with the push for greater transparency led by referees’ chief Howard Webb.
