Son Heung-min's childhood 'Club' comes calling

Son Heung-min, the Tottenham Hotspur talisman, has found himself at the center of transfer chatter linking him to an unlikely destination—Old Trafford.

For a player who once idolized Manchester United and their legendary South Korean star Park Ji-sung, could the dream club of his youth now become his next chapter?

The 32-year-old Spurs captain, despite a dip in form with no goals since September, has been fiercely defended by manager Ange Postecoglou.

“I am Human” — Son Heung-Min breaks silence

“He’s still got a hell of a lot of quality,” Postecoglou stated, dismissing any notion of decline in the player who has dazzled Premier League fans for years.

Yet, with Son entering the final year of his contract and United reportedly eyeing reinforcements, the chatter is heating up. TeamTalk suggests Son could be a “viable target” as Ruben Amorim sees the versatile forward as a strong addition to the squad.

Interestingly, a potential move to United would mark a major shift in the club’s recruitment policy, which has focused on players aged 26 or under—like summer signings Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. At 32, Son would be an outlier, but with his proven pedigree, could he be the exception United needs?

Reflecting on his admiration for Park Ji-sung, Son once admitted to cheering for the Red Devils as a child:

“Manchester United, because obviously, Ji-sung was playing,” he said in 2021, hailing Park as a “national hero” and a pioneer for Korean players in the Premier League.

But Son’s allegiances have since shifted, as he cheekily added, “I was supporting United, but I can’t now!”

For Tottenham fans, the thought of losing their captain and talisman is unthinkable. For United fans, the idea of a proven Premier League star with a deep connection to the club’s legacy is tantalizing.

Could Son’s childhood dream rekindle with a move to Manchester, or will his loyalty to Spurs keep him in North London?
