Liverpool have a backup plan if Romeo Lavia deal fails

Liverpool have built themselves quite the shrewd persona in the transfer market that it is a wonder that Romeo Lavia, a player they have since been linked with isn’t signed up yet by the Reds.

It is even more surprising that the Merseyside giants have waited this long only to have two of their bids rejected by Southampton who the Reds are well aware of are demanding nothing less than £50 million for the Belgian.

Liverpool so far have only sent in 2 bids, with their latest only promising to go slightly above the £40 million range than get any closer to the £50 million the Championship side are holding out for.

In response to the rejected bids, reports have began linking Liverpool with another midfielder from the Brazilian league, in Fluminense’s player, Andre Trindade da Costa Neto.

It is unclear if the links with the Brazilian at this moment is concrete as it is reported that the player’s representatives are pushing for a move to Europe for Andre Trindade da Costa Neto, with the likes of Sporting CP, Fulham being the aforementioned clubs.

The speculations linking the Reds with the Brazilian also holds the possibility of being a mere transfer tactics employed by the player’s agency, represented by Jorge Mendes to fuel increasing interest in the player.

With Fabinho and Jordan Henderson already confirmed exits from the Merseyside club, rumors linking Liverpool with a host of midfielders would be rife as the summer transfer business continues.

However, the Romeo Lavia deal stalling till this moment raises a lot of questions concerning the plans Liverpool have heading into their first game of the season against Chelsea.

Currently, the Reds have no identified Defensive Midfielder to act as cover for the defence, with Stefan Bajcetic and Thiago Alcantara still in the recovery seat from a lengthy injury layoff.

Reporters close to the football club such as Paul Joyce and Neil Jones have both reported that Liverpool has made contact with Fluminense over the potential sale of Andre Trindade da Costa Neto.
