On Tuesday, it was all tension in the Aso-Odo area of Badagry when a tanker driver conveying fuel to a destination in the state lost control of the vehicle which overturned on the expressway.

TopNaija reports that petrol subsequently spilled on the road as residents of the community took advantage of the situation to steal the fuel.

The Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident, said the scene had been cordoned off to avoid a secondary incident.

He said, “The agency’s attention was brought to the tanker incident along Aso-Odo Road, Badagry. An emergency response plan has been activated. Members of the public are cautioned to cooperate with responders, keep away from the scene and refrain from scooping petrol as this could cause a secondary incident.

“The scene has been cordoned off and trans-loading of the fuel product is ongoing. Once this is completed, the tanker will be turned over and removed from the thoroughfare. The current backlog is caused by the operation.

“The agency is appealing to members of the public to exercise patience.”
