JUST IN: Oyo mourns as Olori Kafayat Adeyemi dies, months after the Alaafin’s death (Details)



Olori Kafayat Adeyemi, one of the wives of the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi has reportedly died following husband’s death.


The Oyo palace has been thrown into mourning once again after Olori Kafayat, the fourth wife of late Oba Adeyemi III, joined her ancestors and husband, barely two months to his death.

TopNaija understands that the queen died on the night of Friday, July 1st.

Olori Kafayat Adeyemi was the mother of Prince Adebayo Adeyemi (D’Gov), who is the chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Pensions Board.

Before her death, she was known as Iya Aguo or Iya Ibeji in Oyo Kingdom.

Alaafin Adeyemi, the third from the Alowodu Ruling House, died at 83 in the late hours of Friday, April 23rd at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.

The remains of the top Yoruba traditional ruler were brought to Oyo in the early hours of Saturday, April 24 and traditional rites began.

He is known to be the longest reigning Alaafin ever, having ruled for 52 years.

As with the custom of Yoruba monarch, the late Alaafin of Oyo was given a befitting celebration of life ceremony.

The ceremony caused a stir online when videos of the statue erected for the late monarch made rounds on the internet.

At first glance many thought that it was the Alaafin, but at closer look, you could see that it was a statue erected for him.
