Journalist reveals secret club Xabi Alonso could join aside Liverpool
In football, nothing is ever straightforward or certain, and that includes Xabi Alonso moving to Liverpool.
Discussions continue to surround former Liverpool star Xabi Alonso‘s potential future in coaching, and now, Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has brought forth an intriguing revelation amidst ongoing speculation linking Xabi Alonso to the vacant managerial position at Liverpool FC.
Despite Alonso’s recent dismissal of rumors tying him to Jurgen Klopp’s position following the announcement of Klopp’s departure at the end of the season, Balague’s insights suggest a broader array of potential destinations for the 42-year-old coach.
Addressing the speculation, Xabi Alonso played coy and maintained a professional outlook on things by stressing on his contentment with his current role at Bayer Leverkusen.
He stated;
“At the moment, I am really happy here and enjoying my work here. It is a challenge. I am trying to help my players to be at their best. The next one, I don’t know.”
However, despite Alonso’s public stance, ongoing reports continue to link him with a move away from Bayer Leverkusen, with Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich emerging as likely suitors due to his affiliations with these clubs.
Adding an unexpected twist to the discussion, Balague suggested Manchester City as a potential destination for Alonso during a segment on BBC’s The Football News Show.
Shedding light on Alonso’s initial considerations upon joining Bayer Leverkusen, Balague revealed,
“When he went to Bayer Leverkusen, he told his agent, ‘Do you know what, if it doesn’t go well at Bayer Leverkusen, I’ll go back to Real Sociedad. But if it goes well, from here, it’s Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich.'”
Balague then expanded the scope, introducing Manchester City into the equation as a plausible destination for Alonso’s managerial career.
Commenting on the stylistic similarities between Leverkusen and Manchester City, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher opined that Alonso’s influence and Leverkusen’s profile align more closely with the approach of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City than Klopp’s Liverpool.
It will be an interesting one if Xabi Alonso makes the move to Manchester City instead of Liverpool.
