How Liverpool slander almost put Neville, Sky Sports in trouble

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville is well known for his dislike for Liverpool and just recently, that hatred nearly cost his employers Sky Sports.

According to a recent report, Liverpool’s patience with the Sky Sports pundit is allegedly wearing thin as the Merseyside club contemplated suing Gary Neville’s employers over a statement the pundit made to slander the club’s Head Coach Arne Slot.

Gary Neville claimed on air that current boss Arne Slot was the Reds’ “third choice” for manager behind Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim, Liverpool insiders were not impressed.

Sources reveal that Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes made only a “polite enquiry” with Alonso’s agent, while Slot was the club’s top pick all along.

Liverpool reportedly mulled demanding a retraction from Sky, marking the second recent controversy involving Neville’s comments. Earlier this year, Sky had to apologize after Neville’s “mafia-gang” remark about Nottingham Forest sparked outrage.

As Slot’s Liverpool leads the Premier League and faces Leverkusen’s Alonso in a Champions League clash, tensions with Neville add another layer to the Anfield narrative.

In his program notes, Slot praised Alonso’s transition to management but warned his players against sentimentality.

Tuesday’s match is now more than a battle for points; it’s a high-stakes clash with undertones of loyalty, rivalry, and fierce competition for the top spot.
