“It wasn’t my intention to injure him” — Virgil van Dijk
Liverpool‘s Premier League win over Brighton could have gone a totally different route if not for Virgil van Dijk.
Of course, talking about the Liverpool Skipper, the Dutchman was at the center of the positives and the negatives of the match; the positive being the 2-1 triumph, and the negatives being Ibrahima Konate’s injury and Brighton’s early start that nearly cost Liverpool 3-points.

The Dutch defender, known for his towering presence and composed play, explained that the chaotic scene in the box led to a miscalculated header, which unfortunately landed on Konate’s arm.
With Konate clutching his arm in visible pain, the medical team assessed the injury, and he was subbed off at halftime with a makeshift sling, making way for Joe Gomez. Virgil van Dijk, reflecting on the incident post-game, admitted,
“There were so many bodies around the ball—I think I accidentally headed him on his arm.”
Despite the concern, Van Dijk was optimistic. “Hopefully, it’s not too bad. Arm injuries can sometimes allow players to return quickly, so we’ll have to wait and see.”
Liverpool fans are anxiously awaiting updates on Konate’s condition, as the 25-year-old has been crucial in the Reds’ defensive setup this season. Could this unexpected injury disrupt Liverpool’s momentum, or will Konate bounce back in time for their next showdown?
