BREAKING: Alex Iwobi tests negative for COVID-19

Everton star, Alex Iwobi will not be available for Nigeria’s final 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Lesotho after testing positive for coronavirus; spokespersons told Top Naija on Monday.

Iwobi tested positive before Saturday’s 1-0 away win over Benin and journeyed back to Nigeria with the rest of the crew on Sunday.

“Iwobi has left the camp,” Eagles spokesperson Babafemi Raji told Top Naija.

“Before he left, he did not show any symptoms, he was fine.”

Alexander Chuka Iwobi, 24, has scored twice during the qualifying campaign for the deferred Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Cameroon in January next year.

Nigeria’s victory over Benin assured them top position in Group L in spite of the fact that they had previously qualified before kick-off on account of a goalless draw among Lesotho and Sierra Leone.

The side of Gernot Rohr has 11 points from five matches and are seven points ahead of third-placed Sierra Leone, with the best two crews in the group qualifying for the game.

Nigeria, on Tuesday, host bottom side Lesotho in Lagos.
