No drama, no lengthy talks, just a simple Instagram post was all it took for Sheikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to move on from her husband and walk away from her marriage to Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum.

Apparently, being the daughter of Dubai’s ruler has some confidence in itself as Sheikha Mahra stunned her followers on Wednesday.

The move to declare her divorce from her husband comes just over a year after the couple’s opulent wedding and mere months after the birth of their daughter.

The 30-year-old Sheikha Mahra took to her verified Instagram account to post a heartfelt yet firm message:

“Dear Husband, As you are occupied with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce.” She went on to invoke the Islamic practice of triple talaq, stating, “I divorce you, I divorce you, and I divorce you.”

The princess’s post, which ends with “Take care. Your ex-wife,” has sent shockwaves through social media, as it is highly unusual for such personal matters to be aired publicly, let alone on a platform like Instagram.

This public display of marital dissolution by a royal family member is not only rare but also highlights the evolving nature of communication and transparency among the elite.

Sheikha Mahra’s announcement follows a series of Instagram updates showcasing her joy as a new mother. On May 9, she posted a touching photo of her newborn daughter’s hands, followed by a sweet image on June 4 of herself cuddling her baby.

These posts now stand in stark contrast to the recent divorce announcement, painting a picture of a tumultuous and rapidly changing personal life.

Both Sheikha Mahra and Sheikh Mana have since removed all images of each other from their respective Instagram accounts, signaling a clear and public break.

Their fairy tale engagement in March 2023 and subsequent lavish wedding in June now seem like distant memories, overshadowed by this dramatic turn of events.
