Is Jurgen Klopp the likely manager to get sacked next season?

Could Jurgen Klopp be facing the sack next season at Liverpool?

It is a very cold and cruel question to ask judging by the profile the German has in the premier league, and least of all, in Europe. But if football has taught anyone anything, it is that the game is cold and cruel,

In as much as a lot of sentiments are attached to the sport, on the business end, there are really no sentiments.

Managers have been sacked not minding their legendary status at the club or whatever their achievements were in prior seasons. The likes of Jose Mourinho have been sacked no matter his achievements with Chelsea or Manchester United, especially when the going became tough.

And of course, a manager like Thomas Tuchel was even sacked for less despite winning Chelsea a Champions League title against Manchester City in his maiden season with the Blues, which shows, for a manager like Jurgen Klopp to be sacked from Liverpool, impossibility is less the question as the likelihood of it happening should be the debate.

The 2022/23 season showed little kindness for Jurgen Klopp despite the fact his team began that season on a promising start with a community shield win over rivals, Manchester City, but getting into the season, the reality dawned on Klopp that the season was far from the previous one that had seen them challenging for 4 trophies to the end of the season.

Questions started to be raised concerning the mental fortitude of the Liverpool side after a daunting quadruple chase the previous season. The tactics started receiving doubts, from even the players, as Goal Keeper, Alisson Becker even acknowledge the fact that opponents now had the Reds figured out. Debates over a rebuild for the team were being made.

On the sidelines started emerging those who raised eyebrows over Jurgen Klopp’s longevity in the league as Liverpool fell way below expectation. However, the Reds were able to make a late comeback, one that in the end wasn’t enough to clinch a top 4 finish.

A season outside the Champions League changed a lot of plans the club’s American owners had, but should a repeat of the 2022/23 season be the case in the upcoming season, Jurgen Klopp might be facing the hornet’s nest as it means Liverpool stand a lot to loose moving forward. And this of course could raise more questions and even place Klopp in an unwanted spotlight heading into the 2023/24 season.

Of course, there is also the argument about the club playing the shrewd game in the transfer market, preferring to spend less on players than go all out for players that could move the team to the next level and cover whatever gaps lies between them and former title rivals. This sets a precedent on a likelihood of the owners setting the German up for failure.

It stands to reason that had the owners finalized the purchase of needed midfield reinforcements last summer, Liverpool might have finished higher up than they did. And ahead of the upcoming season, the club has bid farewells to at least 4 players; 3 of which were midfielders. In the summer transfer, they have only acquired just 1 midfielder reinforcement, with transfer reports even placing doubts on the club going for 2 midfield reinforcements to add to the team.

This in every way already shows Liverpool are headed for a repeat of the 2022/23 season as they aim to rely on the likes of Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Stefan Bajcetic in midfield, in addition to an inconsistent squad trio of Fabinho, Thiago and Jordan Henderson to marshal the midfield with Alexis Mac Allister, and 2 other supposed reinforcements that the club ‘might’ bring in.

For a team looking to challenge for every trophy available next season, it is easy to see how the Manager is already being set up to fail, and should Liverpool not engage in some serious transfer activity this summer, the likelihood of Jurgen Klopp being sacked next season stands a very possible scenario.
