I invoked the spirit of freedom in my campaign - Tinubu

During a visit to the private residence of Oba Sikiru Adetona, the revered Awujale of Ijebuland, President Bola Tinubu shared an intriguing account of how he invoked the spirit of freedom during his presidential campaign in Ogun State.

Speaking on Thursday, June 29, Tinubu expressed his gratitude to the people of Ogun State for their unwavering support and revealed that the spirit he invoked has been a driving force behind his dedication to serving the country.

Addressing the gathering, President Tinubu acknowledged the warm reception he has received from the people of Ogun State and expressed his heartfelt appreciation for their loyalty and commitment.

He commended their unwavering support during a critical period and highlighted the challenges faced during his campaign, including the confiscation of funds and the difficulty in currency exchange.

Recalling those challenging times, Tinubu recounted how he turned to the spirit of freedom, for which Ogun State is renowned. He shared that he invoked the spirit twice while in the state, seeking its guidance and influence.

The President specifically mentioned the spirit of Baba, referring to the esteemed Awujale, who is known for his straightforwardness and honesty.

Tinubu acknowledged that invoking the spirit of Baba helped him in his quest for truth and clarity.

Furthermore, President Tinubu mentioned a second spirit he invoked during his campaign: the spirit of money, symbolizing the scarcity of funds. Despite the financial challenges faced, he emphasized that this spirit has driven him to serve relentlessly.

The mention of the spirit of money reflects the determination and resourcefulness needed to overcome obstacles and fulfill his commitment to the country.

President Tinubu’s visit to Oba Sikiru Adetona’s residence represents a homecoming for him, as he expressed his deep gratitude to the people of Ogun State for their continued support.

The President’s interaction with the revered traditional ruler signifies the importance of maintaining strong ties with the local community and fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

As President Tinubu shares his experiences and motivations with the public, his invocation of the spirits of freedom and resourcefulness highlights his unwavering dedication to serving the nation.

“It is a homecoming and I owe so much to all of you and there is so much to thank you for. Because of the way you have taken me and the way you’ve responded to me, all I can say is thank you.

“To many of you, thank you for being there for me and being there for the country. You demonstrated so much loyalty, so much commitment and voted at a very crucial time.

“Your monies were confiscated. The cash swap didn’t work. It was terrible then. I realised that and I came to Ogun State to invoke the spirit of freedom for which we are noted for.

“I invoked that spirit twice. The spirit of Baba (referring to Awujale). The spirit of Baba – Emi l’okan. The spirit for being blunt and that is him.

“And the second spirit is that of money (Naira scarcity), even if there is no money. And that, ever since, has been the spirit that is driving me to serve.”

The visit to Ogun State serves as a testament to the significance of regional connections and the essential role they play in shaping the political landscape.

As his presidential journey progresses, the nation watches with anticipation to see how President Tinubu’s spirit of freedom and resilience will continue to guide his actions and decisions in service to the country.
